Michal Tomaszczyk

Trombone player, composer, arranger, born in 1986 in Poland. Graduated from Jazz Trombone and Jazz Composing and Arranging classes at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, Poland. He is a leader and founder of the quartet BIOTONE.
Debut album of the group titled „Unspoken Words” came out in 2011. It consist of only the compositions of Michal Tomaszczyk. BIOTONE band is nominated to prestigous Polish musical Fryderyk Award 2012 in the category of Jazz Phonographic Debut of the Year.
Besides his own band, works or has worked with formations: Nu Big Band, Kattorna, Salsa Central, Krzysztof Herdzin Big Band, Jose Torres y Salsa Tropical, Zbigniew Namysłowski Big Band, eM Band, Marcin Masecki WOR, Tomasz Stanko/Andrzej Smolik “Peyotl,” Big Ostrava Band, Perfect Girls and Friends, Aukso, Havana Dreams, Big Band AM Katowice, Skauci, Transkapela, Babooshki, Smolik, Big Band Akwarium, Silesian Jazz Orchestra, J4zz PuZone, Big Collective Band and others.
When playing in big bands, performed on the same stage with artists such as Maria Schneider, Ed Partyka, Andrzej Zubek, Jan Ptaszyn Wroblewski, Janusz Muniak, Grzegorz Nagorski, Dante Luciani, Urszula Dudziak, Krystyna Pronko, Ewa Uryga and many others.
He has played at many festivals in the country and abroad: Jazz nad Odra in Wroclaw, Warsaw Summer Jazz Days, Jazz Piano Festival in Kalisz, Jazz Getxo (Spain), Jazzber (Spain), Jazz Camping Kalatówki, Mazurska Noc Jazzowa in Szczytno, Festival Cubano in Krakow, Ostrava Jazz Festival (Czech Republic), Bielska Zadymka Jazzowa, Jazzowa Jesien (Bielsko Biala), Easy Jazz Festival in Zory, Jazzonalia Jazz Festival in Konin, Tremplin Jazz D’Avignon (France), Film and Art Festival Two Shores (Kazimierz Dolny), Meskie Granie in Warsaw, Silesian Jazz Festival in Katowice, Komeda Jazz Festival in Slupsk, Cieszyński Festival Jazzowy, Film Music Festival in Krakow, Malta Festival in Poznan, Szalone Dni Muzyki Les Titans in Warsaw.
As an arranger and composer, in addition to his own bands and individual projects, permanently working with Teatr Rozrywki (Entertainment Theater) in Chorzow and with eM Band.
Michal Tomaszczyk is the winner of the scholarship program Minister of Culture and National Heritage “MLODA POLSKA” in 2011.
